That´s it, the End of the Adventure.
We are now in Rio de Janeiro without our car and are taking a flight to Paris this afternoon after relaxing on the very nice Rio´s beaches for 2 days.
We have been on the road for exactly 4 months = 120 days.
We drove 34 616 km = 21 635 Mi, from New York to Ushuaia to Asuncion with 3668 Liters of Fuel = 965 Gallons
We slept 86 nights in the car without any trouble and never felt in danger.
We have been lucky!
Technical Problems :
- 1 Flat tire (2$)
- 1 exhausted pipe damaged (12$)
- 4 holes in the windshield (not replaced)
We have been REALLY lucky !
Everything was just perfect, we saw so many incredible things, met so many nice people and we just enjoyed to do all that together !
We are going back to Paris for a few years, just the time to get some money back (in euro this time!) and prepare our next trip which will be even more fun because we plan to be with family and friends : you.
If you are dreaming or interested by a serious ´´sailing around the world in warm weather and easy conditions´´ block some vacation time around 2011, you are coming with us on our future catamaran.
Click here to have some more details : http://sailingaroundtheworldwithus.blogspot.com/
This will be our last message for this trip on the blog. We hope you enjoyed it and want to take a break soon as well!

The END
mercredi 23 avril 2008
We made it but...
...the trip is not over yet !
We have more time left than planned so why stop there ?
After a few days in Buenos Aires staying with our friends Guido and Julieta (who have been more than patient with us as we never wanted to leave their place!), we drove to :
- Uruguay (Montevideo... Punta del Este... Punta del Diablo...)
- Brazil (Porto Alegre... Florianopolis and Santa Catharina... Curitiba... Foz de Iguazu and the Cataratas...)
- Argentina (quickly to see the Iguazu falls from the other side)
- Brazil again (but just to cross the borders...)
- Paraguay (Cuidad del Este... and finally Asuncion) !
So now, we are in Asuncion ! For Stephanie it's a quite special anniversary s it's been exactly 10 years (April 1998-April2008) that she left Paraguay. And it is the first time she comes back ! Poor Matthieu, he's got to follow her to a lot of uninteresting places such as her old house, her old school etc. !
In the mean time we are right now investigating how it is possible to sell the car... it does not seam that easy ! do we need to go back to Bolivia to sell it there ? do we have to go back to Argentina and give it to customs for fee ?
You'll find out in a week or so...
You can see the recent pictures here (sorry, Iguazu Brazil and Argentina are mixed together under Brazil pictures)

We made it !!!
New-York to Buenos Aires.
We didn't want to stay to long in the south of Argentina because of the cold (we couldn't stay in shorts!), so we are now in Buenos Aires, enjoying this nice little town of 13million people.
But it is not finished, we still have 3 more weeks to go. Look under Argentina to see more pictures and more details...

Patagonia !!!
We are almost at the end of the American continent...
While we are awaiting for our ferry to cross the Magellan Detroit before the last small bit and Ushuaia, we had time to post our last summary of Argentina...
So far, we drove 16 000 Miles = 25 600 km in 3 months and 1 day.
Our vaillant red Cherokee drank 702 Gallons = 2671 L of fuel.
We slept 73 nights in our car out of the 91 nights...
And all this in total harmony and growing love:

North Argentina and Chile
We left Chile rather quickly to go to Argentina.
We joined Matt's friend, Adrien and his sister in Humahuaca where we stayed 3 days then went to Salta. We went horse back ridding like real gauchos (Adrien, you have to send us the pictures)... drove down to Mendoza were we finally fixed our exhaust pipe and crossed the border to Chile through a magic tunnel under the Andes. Unfortunately a stone went directly into our windshield and now the pssenger has little trouble admiring the landscape !
In Chile we visited Vina del Mar, Valparaiso and Chiloe Island.
From there we crossed again the border to Argentina towards Bariloche.
And now... we are heading down towards Patagonia ! Nooot sure how long it will take us but we hope to come back soon with amazing pictures of the Galciares....

Bolivia - Chile - Argentina
Yes ! we did all this already ! Well, actually so far we only visited Bolivia thoroughly and Chile and Argentina are only a stamp in our passport.
You can still see our journey in Bolivia and look at us bathing in a salty lagoon in Chile.

Last bit of Perou
After the desert, our vaillant Cherokee decided to have some exercise so we climbed into the Andeans and went to the AMAZING Machu Pichu before heading to Lake Titikaka on the border with Bolivia.
Find out how we made it at 4300m of altitude !

On the road again !
We finally got our car back in Ecuador (without bribing custom agents) !
We are on the road again... and we are so exited to drive that we are already in Peru !
While you wait for the picture from Peru, you can look at our pictures from Ecuador and the last ones we took in Panama (for those who want to see a car in a 20foot container).

Guatemala - Honduras - Nicaragua during your weekend !
We are now in Leon in Nicaragua.
We spent the last few days exiting Guatemala (after climbing an active volcano) and crossing Honduras (with a full visit of the country).
For more information, look into these two countries.
We will try to settle down a little bit in Nicaragua so you can catch up with us...

Guatemala...
After Belize yesterday, now you can follow our adventures in Guatemala.
By the way, for those who have some bets on us... we forgot to let you know that we had our first incident in Mexico City : a nail in our tire, very quickly fixed for $2.50, but the nail probably was in our tire since, at least, New Orleans... who is winning so far ?

Updates...
Just to let you know that the last pictures of Mexico are now online... you can view them on the Mexico page to have an idea of what Palenque Ruins are like.
Instead of going to Guatemala directly as we initially planned we crossed through Belize... and it was really worth it ! We only had two days on our vehicule permit but still managed to take a small boat to Caye Caulker. Snorkling there was amazing. A lot of fishes and sea rays... a lot of coral (it is the second reaf in the world).
You can see a few picture of Belize here.
